Honduran-born bassoonist Kika Wright is an energetic and versatile performer, recently transplanted to New York City where she works as the bassoonist and teaching artist for Bronx Arts Ensemble. She is an active chamber musician and serves as the bassoonist for the Incidental Chamber Players.
Ms. Wright is a regular member of the Colour of Music Festival Orchestra and the DC Strings Project. She has performed with Trilogy Opera Company, Hamptons Festival Orchestra, Mind on Fire, Alexandria Symphony, Manhattan Opera Studio, Brooklyn Metro Chamber Orchestra, Concert Artists of Baltimore, Erie Chamber Orchestra, Toronto Sinfonietta, Westmoreland Symphony, and other regional orchestras. Ms. Wright has participated in summer music programs in the U.S. and Canada, including the Hot Springs Music Festival, Banff Music Centre, Eastern Music Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival and School.
Ms. Wright is the former double reed professor at Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD and the former double reed teaching artist at Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C. She is a bassoon instructor for the Band Camp for Adult Musicians, held at Allegheny College in Meadville, PA. Former teachers include Frank Morelli, Nancy Goeres, Daryl Durran, and Marc Vallon.
In a fundraising capacity, Ms. Wright has helped multiple nonprofits through raise thousands of dollars of charitable donations and grants, including Mind on Fire and Symphony Number One. She specializes in online crowdsourced fundraising.
Ms. Wright is a member of the International Double Reed Society and the American Federation of Musicians, Local 802.
